Social Services (3 categories)

Social service needs are handled through referrals made by the ECHD social service staff. The need for a social service referral can be expressed either during an office visit or over the telephone. Needs could be but are not limited to the following – utility shut off; medical and prescription coverage; housing; food; transportation; problems with the elderly; and out of town inquiries (for transients).

The health department sponsors monthly car seat classes that are taught by a trained technician. The class consists of a video, seat demonstration and installation. The classes are offered the parent(s) of newborns and children up to the age of 5 or 6 depending upon the child’s height and weight. Expectant mothers are especially encouraged to come. The charge for the class is based on income eligibility and WIC guidelines. Please Note: There is a fee for the car seat training and it is based on the person’s eligibility to pay. Generally, the health department asks for a donation of $25.00 for each individual car seat provided.

This service is a state-sponsored grant program whose focus is to help reduce infant mortality. This service is currently limited to AA

women who are the highest risk.
