Description:
Blessing House is a 24-hour crisis care center that serves children in need of short term care in Lorain County. Sometimes a parent may have a temporary crisis and therefore are unable to care for their child/children. Blessing House can step in and provide care for children aged birth to 12 years of age.
Cost
The cost for this care is free of charge. Children can stay at Blessing House for 30 days or until their parents are able to care for them properly.
What Do Children Do During Their Stay at Blessing House?
During their stay, children are fed three square meals a day as well as three healthy snacks. Because children are generally entering Blessing House in a crisis situation and the family is unable to pack clothes and other needs for them, Blessing House will provide the children with clothing and other necessary items like toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, etc.
Children are also transported to their home school each day so that there is no interruption in their education. The staff at Blessing House is well-trained and state certified in child care. They are able to care for children with special needs and dispense medications that the children are currently taking. They are not, however, able to give children injections of any kind.
The staff at Blessing House does encourage parents of the children staying at Blessing House to visit them as often as they are able to. This also includes additional family members who have a relationship with the child.
Guidelines for Making Referrals
Anyone interested in making a referral to Blessing House or if you are a family in need of their services, please call 240-1851 and talk to the staff person on duty. They will then let you know if the child/children meet the criteria for staying at Blessing House and also what immediate steps to take.
